1.7 Notes:

  • Willem Oskam works with his brother, Rokus Oskam, who is the owner of Oskam v/f. in the Netherlands. Willem works a lot in Africa.
  • Cob is also known as wellerwände. Private house located in Stenløse.
  • On Lolland, Falster and Zealand are still some farmhouses built in cob / wllerwände.
    • The old schoolhouse in Skelby, Falster on Lolland is in cob.
    • The Rewentlow Orphanage in Ravnsborg and several country houses around Holsteinsborg in southern Zealand are in cob.
    • Open-air museum in Maribo, is one of Rewentlows village schools rebuilt with thick clay walls.

  • The English country houses in North Zealand. Karen Blixen Museum in Rungstedlund is one of the houses that were built in the middle of 1800, after the English model. Another existing "country house" with thick lermure is Claythorpe by Nærum. See reference in literature / links
  • Hjortshoj Eco-village was one of the first places in Denmark, that built modern earthen architecture. There are houses in rammed earth and cob.
  • The housing development, Munkesøgård, in Roskilde built with flat pressed bricks.
  • Architect Flemming Abrahamsson Renewable Energy has built cob houses in Eco-village of Dyssekilde near Hundested.
  • Straw bale construction is very popular in Denmark and Sweden. Clay plaster is used to protect the bales from fire and moisture.
