Earthen architecture in Europe: context, issues
The earthen construction methods revealed until now, architecture prevalent in many European countries. The thermal qualities of raw earth and the materials availability on-site made it an interesting choice in the construction of habitats. Despite technologies developed over time, this architecture remains fragile and threatened. However, research and projects are undertaken to rehabilitate the image of this building art and to highlight the major environmental and climatic qualities.
These issues, relating to the protection of a unique heritage and the promotion of contemporary sustainable architecture, deserve to be further recognized and transmitted to the professionals involved, authorities and general public.
